http://serverfault.com – Possible Duplicate: Optimising MSSQL 2008 server inside VMWare ESXi I have an 8-core system (two quad-core Xeon processors) with 8 GB of memory running VMware ESXi 5. I have 3 VMs currently running: 1 Debian VM using 1 vCPU, 1 WinXP VM using 2 vCPUs and my SQL Server VM. My Debian and WinXP VMs are essentially idle. My SQL Server VM has 4 GB of memory, running Windows 2K3 and SQL Server 2005. When I give my SQL Server 1 vCPU, I can get a sustained write speed of about 3000 rows/s. When I give it 2 vCPUs, it drops to 2200 rows/s, and with 4 vCPUs, I get about 1800 rows/s. Even (HowTos)
