After dropping to root shell from recovery mode how to return to the recovery mode menu?
I have only wifi connection and I do not know what Repair broken packeges menu entry does so I want to drop to shell and connect to my router then come back to the menu and press that recover broken packages item.
Hi,
I was running low on space, so used
Code:
sudo apt-get remove linux-image-3.2.0-2*
It remove all the older 3.2.0-2* kernels, but it also removed all entries for 3.2.0-3* kernels from the GRUB menu!
Now, I have no selection in the GRUB menu to boot into my linux installation!
After picasa/wine installation, I have wine as the top entry in my main menu.
I want to move it to another place in the menu, but it does not show up in settings->main menu (alacarte).
Googling returns mostly posts of people who uninstalled wine but still had the menu entry. I want to keep wine and the menu entry, but would just like to move it to the accessories-category if possible.
It would be easier if i can keep an in grub menu to boot between gui and console. i don't want x to start sometimes.Does GRUB support that kind of feature?
First post..go easy :)
I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot with my Windows 7. I was using the Grub Customizer to mess with the Grub menu. I changed the resolution of the grub menu using Grub Customizer from 1900x1080x8 (or 16) to 1900x1080x24. Upon reboot I can no longer see my Grub menu. I can hit up/down arrow and select the OS by guessing.
Hmm. I`ve never used the GUI. I`m always editing the files directly. But this new menu you are talking about... Is it a totally new right-click menu, or do you just want to add a new menu, inside the existing menu? Anyway, you should be able to add any items you want in the new menu, and remove them from the menus they were in.
I have 11.10 and Windows 7 in dual boot. Today I tried to update grub and I run the following command in terminal:
sudo fdisk -l
sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
sudo grub-install
After installation and reboot, it does not show the grub menu (from which I can choose which OS to boot) and it directly boots Ubuntu.
Please help.
I have both windows and linux installed.
I created a new partition but got Grub error:UNKNOWN FILESYSTEM on restart. Then I used windows recovery CD and Bootrec/fixmbr command to get Grub menu back.
But now I don't see the boot menu.laptop simply boots into windows, also I am unable to boot from any other CD or USB
I'm unable to select items in my network menu. I can open the drop down from the menu bar, but if, for instance, I try to enable wireless networking through the drop down menu, nothing happens.
I can change it in the Networking Settings menu, just not from the menu bar.
Other menu bar menus seem to work correctly.
