I bought a Samsung Series 5 Ultra 2 weeks ago and installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am experiencing problems with overheating. When streaming, watching a movie or when having several programms/actions going on at the same time the CPU temperature rises to 95 degrees and the computer freezes. This happens sometimes when the computer is on battery and always when it is recharging.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 that I've just installed Fedora 17 onto. When I have a process that utilizes 100% of the cpu for more than 15 minutes or so, the computer force shuts down due to overheating.
Back when I had windows 7 and I overused the processor the fan speed would go into "jet engine" mode while it made a dreadful sound, however it never shut down due to overheating.
So I'm having the issue of some videos playing with a blue tint. It seems other people with nVidia cards are having this problem however I'm using onboard graphics (Intel HD Graphics 2000). This only happens when I'm using chrome's own flash plugin. I switched away from that plugin because of issues in the past like videos playing too quickly and audio out of sync.
Brief description of the problem
I and many other people (just search this forum for "overheating"!) have found that their laptop CPUs get insanely hot when running Linux because the CPU fan does not turn on.
Who likes to watch stream videos inside the flash videoplayer? Not me.That's how I got rid of it.First of all you have to install the flashblock plugin in your browser (there's a version for chromium and firefox). Other browsers, like xxxterm can be configured to obtain the same result.
I checked at the chat room and folks there tell me that they have seen flash consuming upto 100% CPU . My problem is I cant run flash in my ubuntu box through a browser and hence sites like youtube cant be opened due to OVERHEATING and shutting down laptop .
In windows XP the flash is very light and not as heavy .
Sometimes my computer shuts down unexpectedly, usually when some process is taxing the CPU.
I have an HP Pavilion DV7-4263CL which as an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6370s card in it.
The problem I'm having is that it is overheating. However, the catch is that it's overheating so quickly that I can't even get through the initial software updates before the laptop shuts down.
Any tips on the quickest way after a stock installation to get the overheating problem under control.
