To say the Kickstarter campaign for the Ouya Gaming Console was successful would be a drastic understatement. They were able to rack up $8,596,475 and is probably one of the reasons why Google dropped the Nexus Q. While many people were able to grab one for as little as $95, you can still pre-order one for $109 with one controller in case you missed out or feeling buyer’s remorse.
In the next year, I’m expecting to see more and more Android-related media devices and set-top boxes such as the Nexus Q. Last week we told you about a new Android-based gaming console called OUYA, but we really didn’t know much about it.
Ouya looked to kickstart funding of its Android-based game console, and the effort has resulted in more than nine times the amount it sought. Ouya had asked to backers to pledge $950,000 through the Kickstarter website, and the total climbed to nearly $8.6 million as of Thursday, the day the campaign was scheduled to end.
The highly anticipated OUYA gaming console will begin shipping out to Kickstarter backers on March 28th, according to a recent blog post by the newly-founded company. The $100 Android-powered gaming console managed to steal the spotlight last year when it surpassed $8.5 million in pledges, making it one of the all-time highest grossing projects on the popular crowdsourcing website.

GameStick, a would-be OUYA competitor that we wrote about back in January when it launched its Kickstarter campaign, has been delayed. The device achieved backing on Kickstarter in February and originally planned to start shipping in March, with “fulfilment to customer” pegged for April.
The OUYA Android-based gaming console is getting ready for its debut: the stated beginning shipping date for Kickstarter backers is March 28.
OnLive has officially announced that their service will be available on the OUYA console at launch next year.
