I just did a new install of Jaunty using "alt. x64 desktop" disk as RAID 1. All went fine and works great, except it boots in degraded mode. I used this https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverg...tallation.html and followed to the letter.
Hi all,
I own a T61 and I recently installed a new hard drive.
Sometimes when I boot into Ubuntu it crashes before the actual OS loads. I have no idea if it's the new drive, or maybe a bad installation of ubuntu and I'm not even sure how to diagnose it.
When I attempt to access one of my drives it is giving me an error (see screenshot for details). This started occurring once I booted into Windows on another drive. Ubuntu is my primary OS and I don't know if Windows corrupted something when mounting the drive or not but I can access it just fine in Windows and was able to access it in Ubuntu prior to booting into Windows. Thank you!
My laptop hard disk got crashed. But until I replace I want to do my home works. So I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on 16GB Kingston DT101 G2 pen drive.
My question is, using my pen drive as my regular disk for 1 or 2 weeks is that OK ? Will I get any problems in my pen drive? After I replace my hard disk can I use that pen drive as normal ( just assume I will use my laptop at least 12 hours per day).
I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and when I restarted and got to the desktop, there was an icon in the top panel that when hovered over said, "One or more disks are failing." This was not happening before I upgraded.
Hi, I'm trying to mount my failing NTFS hard drive (now RAW) as read-only so I can image or clone it with ddrescue. When I try to use ddrescue it does nothing and reports 0 bytes rescued.

Seemed to solve this problem by mounting his input drive. But I don't know what filesystem type to specify when mounting the disk.

Hi, I have a macbook, I think it's considered 3rd generation, I got it May of 2007. Today when I tried to boot into it it came up with I/O errors on disk0s2. I went on my desktop and a quick search says that it's probably a failing hard drive. I burnt the latest ubuntu live cd and that's where I am now.
I am burning dual layer data disks on a DVD drive I just got off eBay that has burned successfully before using two brands of media that I have sucessfully burned to before.
I am burning 2 copies of the disk (for redundancy, if one breaks I take the other and use it to make another copy so if one breaks I am not SOL).
