Hi all,
I'm new to Ubuntu and I've installed Ubuntu desktop 12.10 in my Satellite L300D, alongside with Win7.
While the Ubuntu installation seems to be just fine, I can't boot Win7.
When I choose the "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" it changes to a black screen for 1 second and then it returns to GRUB.
I've tried the Boot Repair solution but it didn't work.
I have a dual boot of Win7 and Ubuntu on my HP laptop. I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 today and on restart I got a different black Grub screen instead of the usual purple one. (GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3.1) Each boot option only returns error messages.
Did anyone manage to boot from USB device natively? I tried to boot with my USB stick, but always get "Boot error" followed by standard boot sequence. The only way to boot with USB device is to use GRUB and enter something like
Code:
> root (fd0)
> kernel /casper/vmlinuz file=preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw quiet splash
Here is the situation. I have XP, Win7 Pro and F 11 installed. Before I installed F 11, Win 7 boot mgr was
working fine. I then installed F 11 and I went to System/Admin/bootloader to edit it and it wouldn't bring up the boot loader. In the attachment was the error msg. Now my only option when I boot up is F 11.
Hi,
I wanted to dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 12.04LTS. So, I installed Win7 first.
Then I installed Ubuntu 12.04LTS, using the "side by side" option and it went through fine and I got the grub loader asking for which i wanted to boot.
Then, there was around 100gb or unallocated space which I made as a partition of windows.
I have intsalled f17 for many times by cd or usb stick. The install process is sccessful. But if I reboot my computer, it load win7 directly and I have no chance to boot into f17.
As I readed the Installation Quick Start Guide, I find some difference.
Hi, can someone help me install a dual boot for windows 7 and ubuntu. I've installed Win7 and I've installed ubuntu and made a /boot, /home, /root, and swap partitions. The /boot is a primary partition and the rest is logical. I set the device boot loader to /boot and when I restart I get a error grub rescue message.
am i supposed to set the device boot loader to /dev/sda or sda3?
I followed the instructions for the Ubuntu windows installer on my Sony Vaio laptop (model SVT131A11M). Upon restart I was prompt to choose the OS for boot (Win7 or Ubuntu), but then I shut down the machine and from the next boot, every time I choose to boot into Ubuntu, the GNU GRUB terminal appears with a grub> prompt.
Now I'm able to boot into Win7, but can't boot into Ubuntu properly.
Hello!
I installed fedora on a PC with Win7 on it from live-usb and had an error:
"There was an error installing the bootloader. The system may not be bootable.
