Just a short Tutorial today. It’s surprising how many people do not know this. To change the hostname under Linux, open a terminal window. Type the following code.
sudo nano /etc/hosts
and change the text to your new hostname. Changes will take effect on Restart.
Generally, I use 01FTP for updating and changing the website, but to be honest that is rather slow and I much prefer having all my programs to do editing available.
The CPU beep is a really irritating thing in Linux distros and sometimes the graphical sound manager does not work when shutting it up.
Fortunately there is a simple way to do it in terminal. In Ubuntu (and distros based upon it) type:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

I have access to a linux server that is acting as the gateway to an internal network.
There is a MagicJack Plus device plugged into this network via CAT5.
The MagicJack gets its ip via DHCP from the linux server, and I've determined which IP address it was issued.
I've nmaped that ip, but I couldn't discover any open ports on the MagicJack Plus device.

I know it's like an old debate but is there a way to get MagicJack to work in Ubuntu 9.10? Virtualbox, VMware, and Wine don't work for it so is there a user-made driver I can download or a free alternative service that can use the device? Our house phone runs off of it in Vista but since I prefer Linux I'm being pressured to make it work.
To enter Root Terminal in Ubuntu, use Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal. Then type ’sudo -s’ and hit return. Type in your administrator password, hit [Enter] and you’re done.

I have installed apt-get using yum because I cant find php-pear on yum. I have edited the source.list and added the following lines

Linux Mint is one of the most popular Ubuntu based distro’s, possibly for the fact it brings something new to the table rather than just a different set of wallpapers. Its always been one of my favorite distros, and like the main Ubuntu project, it has more than one ‘flavour’.
