[other] CD writer problem

http://ubuntuforums.org – This isn't about ubuntu in particular, as it's a hardware problem. I'm wondering what's up with my disc drive: when burning a CD (but mind you, not a DVD), what happens is the burn is incredibly slow as the drive's hardware buffer keeps emptying every second as soon as it's filled, making the write speed jump around between good (when the buffer is filled) and 0b/s (when the buffer's empty). Any ideas as to what is causing this? It's an IDE drive, not that I should think that matters. Thanks (Hardware)
