Optus picks Nokia Siemens for core

Optus has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to upgrade the core of its mobile network to the Evolved Packet Core.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has chosen to outsource management of its network operations to Nokia Siemens Networks under a seven-year agreement. Nokia Siemens will also supply equipment to upgrade VHA‘s core network, but VHA has made no announcement on a supplier for its radio network.

Nokia Siemens Networks is to acquire the majority of Motorola's wireless network infrastructure assets for $US1.2 billion in cash, a move expected to significantly strengthen Nokia Siemens presence globally but particularly in the United States and Japan.

Nokia Siemens Networks claims to have achieved 825Mbps over 400 metres and 750Mbps over 500 metres using 'Phantom DSL' technology.
