I'm trying to set up an OpenVPN server on my VPS for myself when I'm in public places, using this tutorial, http://tipupdate.com/how-to-install-openvpn-on-ubuntu-vps/
However whenever I try to start the server, it gives me this,
root@vps:~# /etc/init.d/openvpn start
* Starting virtual private network daemon(s)...
I'm running openvpn (client) on a home ubuntu server.
I currently create the connection with the command:
sudo openvpn /path/to/config/file
If I don't run it as root, I get an error that the TUN interface can't be created.
I found an old thread on the topic where someone suggested adding your user to netdev, but after doing that I still get the same error.
How urgent is it to solve this prob
I have an *.ovpn file that works if I type in
sudo openvpn client.ovpn
Now I would like to start up openvpn when I boot the computer. It's a headless version of ubuntu if that matters. 12.04 64bit.
I copied filename.ovpn to /etc/openvpn but it's not starting, even if I run
service openvpn start
How can I do this?
Thanks
Hi all,
Just wanted to post about a problem I found and resolved after upgrading from Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS to 12.04.1 LTS.
After upgrading I had problems with getting OpenVpn Server running. It had been working for several years previously. I run a bridged connection that allows OpenVpn to assign IP's on my primary LAN.
Hi everyone.
I'm running an up to date 10.04 so not expecting things to work, just wondering if this could be a bug.
Trying to setup an Open VPN connection in Network Manager using Password with Certificates (TLS) option. Now my private key does not have a password however when I look in syslog to see why the connection fails I see the following.
I have an OpenVPN server and I can connect to it just fine but I can not communicate with any other hosts on the network including the server. I can't ping from the server to an OpenVPN client, I can't ping from an OpenVPN client to the OpenVPN server, I can't ping from OpenVPN client to OpenVPN client or from OpenVPN client to normal LAN host and vise-versa.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a OpenVZ VPS with TUN/TAP enabled. Months ago I succesfully configured a openvpn server on my VPS.
Two days ago there was a power outage on my host's data center which resulted in downtime.
OpenVPN refuses to start up and exists with this error ever since i upgraded Ubuntu from 1.04 to 11.10
