http://www.talkandroid.com – There’s no question that right now the top two phones to buy are the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III, but they won’t be so popular 6 months from now. It won’t be because better handsets will be released, it’s more about Android version updates or lack thereof. Both phones come with Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, and for now seem like the latest and greatest. A little later in the year, Android 5.0 Jelly Bean will be announced and the SDK will be released. This will probably take place in October, and unfortunately neither of these phones will see Jelly Bean until a (IT news)

T-Mobile will be updating their Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future. Right now the device is in the process of receiving updates for 2.3.6. With it already running Gingerbread this isn’t a huge update.

Earlier this week Jelly Bean had begun appearing on Nexus S devices in Pakistan. Today on the Nexus Google+ account, they announced that Jelly Bean is currently being released to customers on at least five different carriers around the world, presumably, this includes the unlocked GSM models too.

As can be seen in the above graphic, Jelly Bean continues its growth, which is nowhere near last month’s increase of 8.5%.  Unfortunately, the numbers still aren’t at a point where Google (and Android customers) should be satisfied.

Samsung hasn’t offered the most timely updates in the past, with some customers still waiting for Android 4.0 to hit their Galaxy S II handsets. This can’t be blamed entirely on ole’ Sammy, though, as carriers tend to be the ones who delay updates.

  Back in July, we reported that we should all expect Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to hit the Samsung Galaxy S III sometime in Q4. It looks like Samsung is very well on that track as a leaked version of a TouchWiz based Jelly Bean ROM (XADLG4) has been spotted running on a Galaxy S III (i9300).

Samsung posted an update on it’s official Facebook page for the Galaxy Note 2 today stating that the Note 2 as well as the Galaxy S3 smartphones will be receiving an update to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 by the end of May.

There was no mention of which versions of the phones will be getting the update first, but it’s safe to assume that global versions will get the update first, and after that, an carrier

New data on the state of the Android ecosystem has been posted to Google’s Android Developers site. The big reveal? Gingerbread, the version of the Android mobile operating system released back in December 2010, is still leading with 57.5% of Android OS share. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is at 20.9%, and Android 2.2 (Froyo) has 14%. Yes, Froyo – released in May 2010.

It’s always nice to see companies releasing timetables for upcoming updates, especially as big as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

It’s a brand new month, which means it’s time for a fresh look at the distribution of current and past Android versions. As we had anticipated, Jelly Bean has grown ever so slightly, reaching just 2.7 percent of Android users, up from 1.8 percent in October.
