I have installed the latests NVIDIA beta drivers (304) from Rawhide recently. However, at the end of my dmesg output, I noticed this:
Code:
[ 21.769608] NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
[ 21.769612] NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver
[ 21.769615] NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console.
I just wanted to share this information with you since I couldn't find anything about it on the Internet.

Dear All,
I've installed Fedora 17 onto an old Samsung X30 laptop, that includes an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 card. I'm using Nvidia driver version 173.14.36
When I try to suspend or hibernate, the laptop resumes immediately.
I have the following /var/log/message, that shows several errors : ACPI and nvidia related (NVRM, pci_legacy_suspend).
# pacman -Rdd nvidia-utils
# pacman -U ./nvidia-utils-custom-304.22-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xzthen install nvidia too.

When I install the recommended drivers, even the latest from their ppa, on reboot, xwindows won't start, it just boots to a console login.
If I purge nvidia and reboot, it works with the builtin ubuntu drivers, even 3D, but system reports the experience as 'standard' using driver Gallium 0.4 on NV92 .
I would like to get nvidia drivers working to see if it performs better.
I have an ASUS g51vx which has a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 260M CUDA 1gb graphics card. I have installed ubuntu 9.10 32bit using VMware player running from windows vista 64 bit.
I have a HP HDX16 1140-US and I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on it. Its video card is a Nvidia 9600M GT. I want to update to the latest driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-d...18-driver.html). However, I'm not sure of the safest way to do this without running into the problems I've heard about when it comes to update the NVidia graphics driver (ex.
