Phoronix: NVIDIA Fermi/Kepler GPUs Are The Best Bet For Ubuntu 14.04 Nouveau
In my testing of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the Linux 3.13 kernel and Mesa 10.1 for the open-source graphics driver stack provided by Nouveau for NVIDIA GeForce graphics hardware, only the Fermi and Kepler GPUs are running reliably.
There's simply no end to the problems for nVidia's Fermi. After they first announced the card using a poorly done fake, it's becoming ever more obvious that fundamental flaws in Fermi are the probable cause for its problems, like the ridiculously bad yield of 2%.
For the seventh time in a row, a GPU based system powered the winning team in a student cluster competition. This time, it was the team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) taking the top spot in the largest student supercomputer challenge, ASC14, held last month. In fact, the top three teams all relied on NVIDIA GPUs.
