The latest nVidia Driver for Linux is available. Here I will show you how to install nVidia 256.35 display drivers in Ubuntu using PPA Repository.
Hi,
I've been trying to get my graphic card working under ubuntu and opensuse but to no avail.
First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
This email came from Bryce Harrington on the ubuntu-devel mailing list:

We are introducing new 'experimental' driver packages for NVIDIA, which
will be available via the Additional Hardware Drivers setup tool for
12.04 user (and 12.10 too).
Hello,
I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04 (64-bit). After installation I selected "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended] from the Additional Drivers dialog box and let it download and install.
I have installed newest Nvidia drivers (from their site with the .run file) on my laptop with Nvidia Geroce 420M.
After some time I decided to try out open source drivers there I went to System Settings -> Software Sources -> Additional drivers and clicked Open source drivers and applied the changes.
After a reboot I have had no Unity panel shown when I logged into the system.
Hello guys.
Hopefully someone knows a bit about the nvidia drivers. I am trying to install the drivers on a Lenovo Y580 that has a GTX 660M, running 12.04 64 bit.
I updated my system to the latest Nvidia driverslocal/lib32-nvidia-utils 304.43-1
NVIDIA drivers utilities and libraries. (32-bit)
local/nvidia 304.43-1
NVIDIA drivers for linux.
local/nvidia-utils 304.43-1
NVIDIA drivers utilities and libraries.when using the older 302.x Nvidia drivers, gpm at login, and then X both works.
I have an Nvidia GeForce GT 500 series card, and cannot install the video driver needed:
Additional drivers doesn't find any
Downloading and installing the driver from the Nvidia website doesn't work
CTRL+ALT+F1 gives an error ("no native mode, forcing panel scaling)
my monitor stays flickering
Earlier today I downgraded the driver for my nvidia 240 GT from version 310 to version 304 using ubuntus "additional drivers" utility. After the install I rebooted but instead of opening unity and allowing me to login it booted into tty1 instead.
