The Free Software Foundation (FSF) and the GNU Project today announced the opening of nominations for the 13th annual Free Software Awards. Award for the Advancement of Free Software is presented to an individual who has made a great contribution to the progress and development of free software, through activities that accord with the spirit of free software.

At the LibrePlanet conference, held in Cambridge MA. on Saturday, the Free Software Foundation presented its annual free software awards. Winners were the software activist John Gilmore and the internet archive, Archive.org.
The award for best eHealth solution using Free Software is awarded to Haakon Eriksen and David Sugar who received 100,000 Norwegian kroner (17,500 USD) on behalf of the GNU Free Call project from Driv Inkubator and the Norwegian Competence Center for Open Source during the GoOpen Conference this week.
It’s that time of year again when we start taking nominations for the sixth annual Crunchies Awards, the Oscars of startups and technology. Once again we are co-hosting the awards with GigaOm and VentureBeat and we will return to the beautiful Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.
