I'm using the live cd (F12) on my old Dell P IV. Fedora boots up smartly, even with my Intel graphics card. I have a wired network to an XP machine and an HP printer, which I have connected to other Linux distros.
I have a question just in case someone else is running the same hardware/software combination as I am: I'm not sure since when, as I usually connect via wireless, but recently I had the need to use my netbook in a wired network and it would have intermittent connectivity while using the ethernet (Atheros chipset, which has had been very well supported for the longest time - Fedora 12 and up).

I recently installed xfce4 with a wired connection and used the newly updated install cd ISO. After using the wired connection to install what I needed I went on to install what is needed for the wireless setup. I went with wpa_supplicant and networkmanager. I configured my wpa_supplicant.conf appropriately and installed the drivers needed for my atheros wireless adapter.
I tried to install a recent kernal update that got hung up and wouldn't finish so I aborted the update. After that I could no longer use $sudo modprobe b43 to initiate my wireless connection. My strategy is to establish a wired connection, make sure all updates could be installed, and then try to establish the wireless connection again. However, I cannot establish a wired connection.
I'm rather new to Linux/Ubuntu and about to lose my religion figuring this one out.
I am unable to connect to the internet with ethernet in 10.04 64bit. Everything was working fine this morning, but when I booted up this evening, no connection.
In Network Connections, under the Wired tab, Auto eth0 reads Last Used: never. Also, Network Manager had created a new network, Wired Connection 1.
My Lenovo G580 series comes with Atheros Network driver which has some problem with wired network in ubuntu based backtrack 5 r3x64.The WICD Network manager detect the wired network connection but cannot connect to it.After shown the message "Putting interface up" nothing happen only a message "not connected".
Hey guys,
Hopefully this is a quick and simple question.
I'm running F17 and I need to connect my machine to a local group of computers tied together with a network switch.
I am having a problem connecting to wired connection from router. I used to have 11.10 where I tried to establish DSL connection. I tried it doing through the terminal using some pppoeconf commands.
When I reboot my system, under the Ubuntu loading sign, I saw messages like
configuring network; wait 60 seconds more for connection, etc.
Then after 2-3 minutes, Ubuntu home screen appears.
I'm on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). I've read a few threads regarding wired connection problems, but haven't found a solution yet.
The problem appears after I connect to a wireless network. When I disconnect wireless and plug in an internet cable, the wired connection is not recognized at all.
