No sound from internal speaker but headphones OK

http://askubuntu.com – The problem: The system won't play sound on the internal speaker of the laptop, but only on the headphone. When I put the headphone jack half in and fiddle around with it, then it'll play even on the internal speakers (the system apparently believes, that the headphone are in). What should I do? I have an F17 machine with an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU w/embedded Intel HD4000 GPU.

When I plug my HDMI into a TV the video works great but I get no sound.

aplay -l

I've bought a tv a few days ago, tried to connect my laptop via hdmi cable to it - worked perfectly, I just had to choose right audio device output as hdmi and it worked with no issues.

So I've tried to connect my desktop computer to the tv using hdmi cable - video works with no issues, but there's no sound.

I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Lenovo Y530 in a separate partition along with Vista.

Now the problem is that there is no sound if I am using Ubuntu, Vista is fine. I checked many websites but no solution helped.

As far as I can tell, the drivers I need are installed. But still no sound.

Can you please help me solve this problem.

I have enabled "simultaneous output" in PulseAudio Preferences, I run pasystray(pavucontrol for volume), and want to use both HDMI-output as well as internal output in different application at the same time, but sound configuration (both pavucontrol and phonon) only lets me activate 1 device at a time (by selecting card profiles).

I have sound in mythtv no problem.
