I had some problem with creating the non-root user during installation of OpenSUSE 11.2 so i had to create the user my self. When logged into this account i can connect to my wireless account but i cannot access internet but as root i can access the internet.
I guess it must be some user management issue. But my knowledge is pretty limited in that area.
I had Slackware 12 on my computer for awhile with no problems. Then I tried Ubuntu and did not stick with it very long so I went back to Slack 13. Now my sound works but only one program at a time can use it. How do i fix this? I will be listening to a song and have firefox open on youtube and it wont play the youtube sound.
It's great to be a newby on this forum.
I have been loving Ubuntu 9.10 and all was working fine until I tried to Skype. My Mic stopped working. I have tried all avenues. Sound prefs, input/output connections all I hear is static hiss.
How can I resolve the problem? I've even tried different mic's.
Please help.
hy guys.
I'm using Slackware 13.0 and Win XP Pro.
Yesterday I had to plug off my PCI soundcard (Terratec Aureon 5.1).
After i plugged it in, I could't use my sound nor in linux and windows.
In Windows I'm not able to install the drivers, which were already installed.
How can I solve my problem?
Hi folks,
In the last week I have been noticing sound issues. Today my sound stopped working all together.
I have a dual boot system: Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10. The sound works fine under XP. My understanding is that there are problems with PulseAudio.
I was wondering, what if you had a flash drive formatted with an FS that has UNIX permissions. Then what if you copied some of your files onto it. And then put it into another computer that has a user account by the same name. WIll the user be able to access the files?
What if you named your own user differently on the other computer, will you be able to get your files?
I just saw a show online about some store up north. They have this handy little handheld scanning device that customers can use in the store to get prices and info on their purchases. Doesn't this sound eerily like the good ole Scancat???!!! Sorry I don't have the details. I'm trying to find it.
Hello,
I'm using ubuntu, and I'd like my /var/log/syslog file to display unix_chkpwd lines, such as this one (which it doesn't do at the moment) :
Feb 6 04:20:40 www unix_chkpwd[20528]: password check failed for user (root)
I'd rather not install linux_pam unless really necessary because I already tried it and I've had quite a lot of problems with it.
I´ve a strange issue with alien bob´s 64bit package of avidemux 2.5.2:
A movie converted to xvid is not playable on my old notebook running slackware 12.2. I hear sound but see only a black screen. Neither kaffeine 0.8.8 nor vlc 1.0.1 shows the movie. On Slackware 13_64 there is no problem with any player. Even my wife can watch the movie on her windows machine with vlc 1.0.0.
