No Sound Devide Detected in Ubuntu 12.10

http://askubuntu.com – My problem started when I couldn't get sound from my headphones, only from my speakers... while trying to solve this, I think I have made it worse. I have actually no sound at all in my Ubuntu 12.10, and I get a "Dummy" device in the sound settings... When plugging in my headphones jack the sound is turned to mute and no sound come out , but sound works fine with no headphones also in my alsamixer there is not automute option.

Hi, I run Ubuntu 12.04 and have Lenovo G780 laptop. When I plug headphones to jack the sound mutes but you can't hear anthing from the headphones, I tried different headphones.

I ran a script I found on of the help pages here:

Unreliable sound 2 years 44 weeks ago

Running 11.3 on my HP DV4-1220US the sound worked fine until I installed the Broadcom-wl wireless drivers then the sound stopped. I was able to get the sound working again by reconfiguring the sound drivers in YaST but it is unreliable and often stops working and I have no volume control in the system tray. Here is the output from the varous scripts and commands

Hi, After one of the latest kernel update to opensuse 11.1 64 bit, I've started to have capture sound problem with builtin microphone of my laptop. It continues with latest opensuse 11.2 64 bit. I've volume up everything from mixer, yast's sound option, configure desktop's multimedia options, but nothing works.

hi, i'm not a 1st day linux noob but not quite a novice either, w/ that here it is.

opening a ram stream with RealPlayer, gives the following:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1010: (snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave,

and no sound, on 99/100 connections.

Has anybody the same problem? What can I do to solve it?

I just got a hp dv8 laptop. Everything pretty much worked out of the box.

Video - works great after apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 (karmic) wireless - worked right away

I'm using Fedora 11 right now (trying to switch permanently to Linux) one of the thing i'm having problem with is the Digital Sound the system can see the device but, noting coming out of the speakers
