I was running Dapper with both direct rendering and 3D acceleration working using the fglrx binary driver for my ATI Radeon 9550 card.
I recently updated to Hardy, and switched to the free software radeon driver. After doing some research and tweaking, I managed to get direct rendering working. glxgears now shows decent frame rates (e.g. 1757.013 FPS).
I want to enable desktop effects (normal or extra) but I get the message:
Desktop effects could not be enabled.
I have a ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card. I've seen in other posts that this has to do with the driver 'fglrx'. But when I do:
dmesg|grep 'fglrx'
Before OpenSuse 11.2 I used some Debian-based distros that used to have a good support for my integrated video card Via Unichrome P4M800 Pro / CN700.
I had 3D running with direct rendering by Mesa.
With OpenSuse I'm having problems to configure my graphics with a good configuration...
Thanks for the great support in here guys. Ok now my problem is, how do you adjust the response time of the taskbar menus, such as when you click on the start button on the bottom left of the desktop? My problem is that when I click them, it would delay for about 1 second before popping up the menu. But right-clicking on the desktop popped out fine without any delay though. Is this normal?
Hi, i'm unable to get Compiz working.
I've already uninstalled nouveau, put "rdblacklist=nouveau", and blacklisted it. I've also installed nVidia, and configured it to work with my dual head setup. everything works great, except when i try to enable Compiz:
Code:
1.
$ compiz --replace
2.
ah, thank you for answering!it was tearing, the word i didn't remember.uname -r
3.2.0-4-amd64glxinfo | grep "direct rendering"
direct rendering: Yesanyhow i was playing around and noticed that the tearing is (almost 100%) gone when i disable compton.but, following your links, ->running a dist-upgrade now. finished.yeah, that fixed it.wow. and thanks. again.
I used to Debian before
glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV350
GL_EXT_vertex_array_bgra, GL_NV_conditional_render,
glxgears
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.025 FPS
glxinfo |grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x209)
GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_AMD_draw_buffers_blend
Desktop Effects could not be enabled. Also, I'm not having any luck installing Catalyst drivers. After installing Catalyst driver for the right kernel version, Xorg goes corrupt when starting up.
Kernel: 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686.PAE
Video card: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3450
$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
My hardware configuration is
Intel core2duo 2.93GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
MSI G31 motherboard
Seagate 80GB PATA harddisk
I'm new to linux and I'm having this problem since few days, it was not there before.
