The link to your screenshot seems dead. Have you tried changing your GTK theme?
It looks like gnome-mplayer's use of an actual config file has been dropped in favour of dconf. Some people are annoyed by that.
I remember reading something about getting xwinwrap to play nice with multiple monitors. Is that what you're trying to do? Or is it for switching workspaces on the same monitor?

You can also try 'glamor' if you want to be sure that the acceleration method is not the problem.
