nm-applet not showing until networkmanager restart in gnome 3

http://unix.stackexchange.com – i have recently installed Archlinux and Gnome 3 on my new laptop and have the following problem: The nw-applet is not showing in the Gnome panel until i manually restart the networkmanager daemon. Any suggestions? (HowTos)

I have problem with Network Manager in xmonad. Let's say I want to connect to a new wireless network. When I try to do so, error is displayed, saying: "insufficient privileges". But when I try do do this with Gnome 3 there is no problem.

Hi Archers. I have just installed arch on my (thinkpad) machine. I have also installed gnome as a DM. However, I don't have a network status icon. This bother me for I don't have information about wiether or not I am connected to the network.

After installing Ubuntu under VirtualBox the nm-applet is missing.

I already tried to restart the applet but nothing has happened. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tips. I did what you suggested (start gnome-keyring-daemon from .xinitrc) Unfortunately, the grey-out still persists. I kill nm-applet then restart it as root.

I am a complete Linux beginner and I managed to install Archlinux today. But I have no access to my wifi for some reason.

I get internet access in my terminal with wifi-menu but gnome tells me that it can not connect to my wireless network. The password is 100% correct.

Experienced the same problem with networkmanager-vpnc. I created a patch that works around the problem. See this post.As I think this problem is rather related to networkmanager-applet or gnome-shell it could work for you, too.
