Nearly six months after it completed the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corporation is yet to make a public statement about the future of the OpenSolaris project.

Oracle exec explains why the community need not worry too much about how the open source Solaris community effort will continue under new ownership.

The H writes that the OpenSolaris governing board threatens its dissolution: "In an act of desperation, the OpenSolaris governing board (OGB) has issued an ultimatum to Oracle.

Earlier this month there was the release of Nexenta Core Platform 3.0 as the last likely release of this OpenSolaris + Ubuntu Hardy mix to be based upon the original OpenSolaris Nevada code-base with Oracle killing the project so now they have the Illumos OpenSolaris fork to utilize.
