I've been casually using Ubuntu for a few years but this is the first time I've had real trouble installing the OS. I bought a Lenovo laptop and I've run into a few problems after installing:
After formatting the drive and installing Ubuntu 11.10 (64 bit) the disk utility gives me the message "the partition is misaligned by 3072 bytes" and suggests repartitioning.
Here is what my partition looked like yesterday morning:
[100 mb system partition] [499.9 gb partition for Windows 8]
I ran disk manager and reduced the Windows 8 partition.
I'm having problems installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on my laptop.
I once had it installed on my laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, but LightDM got weird so I was forced to erase the Ubuntu partition.
I erased all swap partition and ext4 partition.
I had fedora 17 in a primary partition. Yesterday I have installed ubuntu in an extended partition. and I cant see fedora in grub, so I trieg update-grub2 but it doesnt recorgonise fedora being present, even the fedora partition is mounted. So I tried to re-install grub from live usb but it didnot work either.
How to bring back my fedora? I don't want to re-install fedora in the other partition.
I dropped my laptop from a tall table today and it splintered my screen. I hooked up a Dell monitor to it, so I'm able to use it, but I was planning on repartitioning my drives tonight so I could use all of the available space after installing Ubuntu 9.10 for the fifth time.
Here is what I'm working with:
Hi all, I've just got a new laptop running windows vista 64 bit but going to be removing that & installing fedora 11 on it & seeing as Ubuntu doesn't come with a pae kernel as standard yet, fedora is the way to go :). the Hard drive is 2x500 gigs running in raid 0 mode
here's how I would like to install fedora
So I upgraded Ubuntu from 10.04 to 12.04 and it had issues. Long story short, I backed up everything and want to reinstall.
The installer apparently REALLY doesn't like installing on mis-aligned partitions. I get the error
The partition /dev/sda5 assigned to / starts on an offset of 3072 bytes...
I have HP laptop, core i7, 500GB HDD, 1GB ATI graphics card.
I have windows 7 64 bit installed, i am trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 32bit OS. When i reached the partition screen, i chose custom installation. There, i found my HDD listed as 500 GB in one partition. No partition showing windows 7.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and it works perfectly, however Yesterday, after I restarted my laptop, in Ubuntu I can only see the system partition. other partition had disappeared.
I stucked in this problem once and I had to reinstall Ubuntu but can you tell me what's wrong here? how can i solve this problem.
