I have Solaris 10 and 11 running on my system. I want to update all of them to newest patch.
I don't have license or support plan for Solaris yet (the OS is pre-installed on my server).
On Solaris 11 I heard I need a support license and a cert to connect to Oracle software repository. What about Solaris 10?
Hi all. Im new to programming and Unix. Want to start learning to use Solaris 11. I have 2 boxes currently and want to run an all in one Solaris Box to act as a file server, web server ect. I want to use the second box as my main programming box that is as close to a Solaris OS as possible that has better Browser support. Seems with Solaris Firefox is the only browser I am able to use.
I'm wanting to install Solaris 11.1 on a system that already has Windows and Red Hat and a boot system managed by GRUB.
From what I've read, the Solaris 11.1 install will recognize Windows fine and account for it with GRUB 2.

At my new job, they want me to use a solaris 8 operating system, but all my coding experience has been on linux. Linux had a lot of tools built into the system, but it seems like the solaris I'm using is extremely stripped down.
I was wondering if someone can tell me how to install vim or emacs (preferably emacs) on solaris 8. I tried google but I couldn't find any download links for solaris 8.
Hello Gurus,
I am trying to set up bidirectional password-less login between a linux and a Solaris.
I'm about to buy a used Sun Sparc machine (Sun Blade 2500 Ultrasparc IIIi 1,28Ghz) in order to use it as a personal development server. Problem is, it is sold without any OS. I would like to install a Solaris system on it, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I think Solaris 10 should work, since it was released the same year than the machine, but I'm not sure.
I have Solaris 10 machine
I need to verify time stamp of some file in my Solaris machine
And to get the following format
[year][month][day]
Example of working command on Linux
ls -l --time-style=+%Y%m%d /etc/hosts | awk '{print $6}'
20121107 <----- ( expected results )
remark I can't to install gnu ls on My solaris machine!
On my solaris machine I try the following
