Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a program that offers students an paid opportunity to write code for several open source projects. The purpose is to benefit open source projects and encourage young developers to hack and learn.

Google Summer of Code 2012 is a global internship programme which offers post-secondary student developers of ages 18 and above stipends to develop code for various open source software projects. This year, the GSoC will run between May 21 – August 24.

Google Summer of Code has brought together over 4,500 students from around the world with over 300 open source projects and together have created millions of lines of code.

Google has published a statistical breakdown of the 1,026 students accepted to participate in this year's Google Summer of Code event which will take place from the end of May to August...

Google today announced that its third Code-in contest for high school students will start on November 26.

The KDE community is excited to accept 51 students into the Google Summer of Code program this year. Their projects will touch KDE on almost every level, and integrate the students into our community with some likely to become longtime KDE contributors. The next month will be spent on community bonding, getting to know the people and the code behind the project they'll be working on.

The GStreamer project is happy to announce that we are a mentoring organization in the 2012 Google Summer of Code. This means students from all over the world who are interested in open source and multimedia can apply to do a project related to GStreamer as their paid summer job this year.
