Team Tiny Core has announced that piCore 5.2, the Raspberry Pi port of Tiny Core Linux, has been released and is available for download, featuring a large number of changes and improvements. If you are not familiar with the Tiny Core family of Linux distributions, you need to know that this is a modular-based system with community-built extensions.
With container farms as the targets, the Ubuntu team is out with a new “snappy” version of Ubuntu Core. This minimalist take on Ubuntu can also serve Docker deployments and platform-as-a-service environments.
Among Linux distributions, Ubuntu has a fairly sterling reputation as a proven operating system that developers can build around.

The Xubuntu team has been discussing this for a long time, and with this release
we'd like to finally provide the option of a minimally installable system.
The Ubuntu team is very pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 13.10
for Desktop, Server, Cloud, Phone, and Core products.
Codenamed "Saucy Salamander", 13.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition
of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a
high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.
