Ok, this has been an annoyance for ooooh, a long time now.
Yes, I could just uninstall NetworkManager, config by hand and be done with it, like in Ye Olden Dayse. However, in trying to get with the times, I'm trying to do this the proper, "Fedora approved" way...
NetworkManager clobbers resolv.conf. Yes, that's nothing new.
hi!
NetworkManager is not required. In fact it is rather useless on a server. Configure the network without NetworkManager and then you can remove it. [by toracat]
Not sure if I'm on the right track here, but you can start/stop/enable/disable etc NetworkManager with: systemctl start NetworkManagerwifi-menu will not work if NetworkManager is running and vice-versa.I use NetworkManager, but if I don't boot into a gui cause somethings broken, then I have to stop NetworkManager in order for wifi-menu to work.
My network manager recently stopped launching on boot and I couldn't even connect with ethernet. After digging around I found I can fix this at the terminal by putting in:
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
However, I have to keep doing this each time I restart, and it's annoying to have to keep doing that. Is there any way to fix this?
GutenYe wrote:So, my problem is, How can I stop NetworkManager permanently?, so that I can use both netcfg and NetworkManager side by side, but I don't want to disable NetworkManager at system boot.I don't understand this. You want to stop something "permanently" while somehow keeping it enabled, WTF?

I'm having a strange problem with my netbook (Dell Mini 9 with Fedora 11). I can connect to my wireless access point, but once I disconnect (restart netbook, etc), my netbook finds the access point, yet the passphrase doesn't get authenticated. It just tries and tries, with no connection. I can see all of the wireless networks in the area, so I know that the wireless card is working.
I hear lots of anger from people that hate NetworkManager, but:can it coexist with network?what damage does NetworkManager cause?once i've used NetworkManager must I us... [by cocobolo]
First of all, what was the name of the alternative for networkmanager? I will try to download that with windows for the time being.
Networkmanager is listing no networks. How do I get it to search?
If I disable & reenable networking via the netman icon there is not change...
There should really, really be a refresh button!
