http://unix.stackexchange.com – One day the power just went off when was using my desktop computer running Linux 11.4. When later the power came back, I couldn't access the internet. When I open any browser, it tells me I have no connection. Even my desktop network icon shows that I am offline. But when I check the wired connection behind my desktop computer, it shows that I connected with a green blinking LED. What is going on with my desktop? All the computers in our lab are fine. Only mine which I use to administer our computer lab has this problem. (HowTos)

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 in my desktop PC and wired-lan for connecting internet. I'm able to connect with internet without any problem. But the network icon in the notification area always showing disconnected.

Here the first icon represents network icon and it shows always diconnected even when connected to network.

I just installed xubuntu (8.04) onto an old Sony vaio laptop and am a complete Linux newbie. After playing around, it seems to be running well, except it is not detecting my wired Ethernet connection correctly.

I have a dell latitude 2100 running ubuntu 11.1. Wireless internet works fine on it but wired connections do not. When I plug a ethernet cord in, it keeps on saying wired connection connected followed by disconnected. When I check the ethernet connection in the network part of system settings, it also keeps rapidly changing to on/off.

i have installed ubuntu 11.10 recently.

I have my desktop pc with a wired/ LAN connection to a Belkin wireless router. We also have a couple of laptops in the house which connect to the same router, but wirelessly. Is there anyway I can create a network for file transfer and desktop sharing between these computers whilst the desktop pc is connected via LAN cable? All machines are running Ubuntu 12.04.

Trying to set up a Lexmark C543dn laser printer onto our office wired network.

Our office is around 60 computers, all connected to a server, each PC has a static IP.

I moved from win.7 to Ubuntu (Unity) on all my machines and really like it. There is just one issue I just can't solve.

I have 3 machines at home - a desktop (with no monitor, keyboard and mouse connected) and two laptops.

The desktop is connected by a cable to the router and the laptops are connected with a solid wireless connection.

I am running ubuntu 9.10 and am very pleased with it and all has been working pretty good until this afternoon when my 2 year old grandaughter hit the power button and shut the system down with no way to shut down ubuntu normally.

Hi all, i am trying to use my laptop (running Ubuntu) to take the connected wireless network to allow a separate computer (win7) to be wired to the Ethernet port and be connected to the Internet.

To reiterate,

I want to bridge my Ethernet and wireless connections so that a computer connected can use the Internet.

Modem---(wireless)---> Ubuntu Laptop---(Ethernet port)--- Win7 Desktop
