One day the power just went off when was using my desktop computer running Linux 11.4. When later the power came back, I couldn't access the internet.
When I open any browser, it tells me I have no connection. Even my desktop network icon shows that I am offline.
I just installed xubuntu (8.04) onto an old Sony vaio laptop and am a complete Linux newbie. After playing around, it seems to be running well, except it is not detecting my wired Ethernet connection correctly.
I normally connect to internet through my mobile phone's SIM card. Its a GSM network.
To connect to internet in GUI manner I go to notification bar, click on network icon, and click on connections name. After connecting the network icon changes to indicate that I have connected to internet.
Can I do it in command line way?
Layout cases in the Notification | Ubuntu App Developer document states that
... using non-existing (stock-)icon-names ... use one of the new
icon-name (see icons) ...
and that this (icons at wiki.ubuntu.com/mhall119/devportal/notify-osd#icons)
only makes casual reference, via the examples, to
... -i notification-message-im
...
I installed F 17 32 LXDE on my friend's computer.
When signing on, the network icon at the lower right shows with two monitors.
Each time the system is rebooted, the icon has to be clicked, and 'System p4p1' has to be reselected again.
Code:
Wired Network
disconnected
-------------------- Available --------------------
System p4p1
Wireless Networks
I've just installed ubuntu on my laptop and I'm trying to connect to the wireless network that the other computers in my house are using.
While installing Ubuntu I connected it to my WI-fi network. But as installation finished I couldn't connect to that same network again because Ubuntu doesn't see it. It does still see other networks but not mine. Changing network name did not help nor did connecting to hidden wireless network. I'm sure I'm not alone having this issue but I couldn't find the answer.
Hello. I brought my computer with Ubuntu 9.10 installed alongside Windows Vista home for the Christmas break. I turned it on today in hopes that I could get on, play around with Linux a little bit, and then do some homework on it. Unfortunately, I intend to get some software which I desperately need to do my work, and this requires internet usage.
This is my second day with ubuntu on a dell mini 10v with broadcom wireless card. I hooked up to a wired connection and ubuntu installed the drivers for the broadcom card. When I put the cursor over the wireless icon on the desktop it shows the name of my wireless connection, active, and my ip address but when I open firefox I get a "server not found".
