Network file system that supports posix select syscall?

view story

http://serverfault.com – On a (linux) server we have a ascii data log file that is being written to rapidly. We would like to read it and do soft real-time plotting on another machine. What is the best way to achieve this? I have tinkered a bit with NFS and sshfs, but they don't seem to support select(). i.e. tail -f only updates at it's internal 1hz rate, rather than "continuously". I haven't found anything saying they ~don't support the select syscall, though... We would like to avoid polling for file changes on the client. (HowTos)
