network attached storage for a video site? [closed]

http://serverfault.com – I'm a noob and is working on a video sharing type of site. Would using network attached storage's devices be a good or bad idea, then later upgrade to a SAN. So a user uploads, it goes on the network disk(s), then a encoder copies to to local, encodes and then copy them back to the NAS for the streaming Machines to serve up. Would it be a good or bad idea? Can I switch out a small NAS for a SAN or would that require major code changes? Is that a bad idea? Central storage seems like a really simple way to go. Got any advice for me? The application is in both node.js and php. (HowTos)
