http://www.linuxforums.org – I have just installed Ubuntu (9.10/karmic koala) on an old compaq computer (I don't know specific model names/type as we found it in the closet with no case/markings), Ubuntu will not allow me to set my resolution higher than 800x600 at 60Hz, this monitor can do 1280x1024 at 75Hz. I have written xorg.conf.new and when I test it I get a blank screen. Currently there is no xorg.conf in /etc/X11, which is why I am trying to build one. Here is my xorg.conf: Code: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" FontPath "built-ins" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dri" Load "glx" Load "dbe" Load "dri2" Load "extmod" Load "record" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" #DisplaySize 340 270 # mm Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "LKM" ModelName "1701" Option "DPMS" -- HorizSync 30-83 -- VertRefresh 56-75 EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: <i>: integer, <f>: float, <bool>: "True"/"False", ### <string>: "String", <freq>: "<f> Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "SWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "HWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "NoAccel" # [<bool>] #Option "ShadowFB" # [<bool>] #Option "UseFBDev" # [<bool>] #Option "Rotate" # [<str>] #Option "VideoKey" # <i> #Option "FlatPanel" # [<bool>] #Option "FPDither" # [<bool>] #Option "CrtcNumber" # <i> #Option "FPScale" # [<bool>] #Option "FPTweak" # <i> #Option "DualHead" # [<bool>] Identifier "Card0" Driver "nv" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "C51 [GeForce 6150 LE]" BusID "PCI:0:5:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 1 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 4 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 8 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 15 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 -- Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection EndSection This is what Xorg -configure wrote out, the only changes I made were to the lines with the -- in front (note I put the -- there for your benefit, they are not in my actual xorg.conf file). Is there any problem with this? I have done this a few times and never had this many problems with it. I have also attempted using xrandr to add the modes but this did not work either, when I go into the gui and try and set the resolution it says it cannot be set. Please help. (HowTos)
