Hello everybody.
Here is the problem I've been fighting with for a few days now: my Windows XP laptop stopped booting, throwing blue screen at me with "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error. Long story short, I found out the reason was that the NTFS partition of my HDD that Windows was installed on got corrupted somehow.
First I decided to solve Windows trouble with Windows stuff.
I'm attempting to create a dual-boot between Linux and Windows XP, I ran into some trouble, this is what's happened so far:- Running Windows XP only- Defragmented Windows partition- Booted Linux liveUSB- Took some space from Windows partition using GParted (12 GiB)- With that space, created 2 new partitions: swap (2 GiB) and Ext4 (10 GiB)And now, without installing Grub or Linux I decide
I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Fedora 16. On my Windows side I had 4 NTFS partitions - C, D, E, F. On Fedora 16 side it had a single ext2 partition. Now since I was out of space in C partition of windows so I decided to delete the F partition and extend the C partition. I used windows partition tool for this purpose. But when I rebooted I got the grub prompt screen.
Hello,
I am trying to get ubuntu to dual boot with windows 8 on my notebook. Whenever I boot up, it goes directly to windows. The notebook is a lenovo z580 that came preloaded with windows 7. I did a clean install for windows 8.
After I tried to install Ubuntu 12.10 into my Windows 7 a black screen came up and nothing happened for over five minutes. So I force shutdown my computer and started again on the linux CD. I partitioned the Linux partitions manually and installed Ubuntu.
Today I was playing a game on my laptop. The game froze for a few seconds (as it normally does) and I hit the keyboard fairly hard. It was still working fine. I went to restart the computer, and I clicked "force shutdown". It shut down.
Note that I have Windows 7 and Windows 8 CP installed on separate partitions.
I have a computer with windows 7, windows xp, and ubuntu. The problem is I can't boot xp. Whenever I try, I get a black screen. I would like to be able to boot from xp, 7, or ubuntu from grub
Here is what I have done:
1) Installed XP
2) Used gparted to shrink xp partition and installed ubuntu
3) Used gparted to shirnk xp partition and installed windows 7
Hi there!
I am attempting to dual boot Windows HPC Server 2008 on my existing Linux(Ubuntu) HPC machine. I know that Windows will wipe the MBR and I have the Ubuntu LiveCD to restore GRUB when that happens, but I am having some trouble with my disk partitions.
As of right now, when I boot into the Windows installation, it shows no disks available to install onto.
Hello, I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I can't get back into windows (no such device / file not found when trying to load windows boot loader from grub)
I have an SSD(sdb) and 2 TB HDD(sda).
