I copied all the contents of a hard drive to another. It wont boot of it though. I need it to.
I deleted a partition and used a data recovery, The files i copied were the recovered ones. It recovered EVERY file.
hi i am trying to work out how to recover the data from the hard drive that was in my old laptop. it was running the latest ubuntu and i am now running ubuntu satanic 11.04 as i do not like 11.10. the drive was encripted and have it now in a external usb drive. have tried chown and advanced chown and still it is not showing me the contents of the home folder.
I'm not sure how to explain this in the subject better, so the "question" may not be right. But here goes. I have three hard drives. Drive A is a 320GB drive, Drive B is a 80 GB Drive, and Drive C is a 1TB Drive.
I recently had a hard drive partition vanish on me while moving the drive from one machine to another. In an attempt to fix the problem I took it out of my Ubuntu box and put it in a Windows machine to recover it. The program I used found what looked perfectly like the ext4 partition (correct disk usage, size, free space etc) so I wrote it to the disk.
Some time ago I installed Fedora 17 on some hard drive. After clicking through the installer with encryption enabled I realised it put the swap partition on another hard drive. This other hard drive no longer exists.
I used a Disk cloning device to clone my C Drive because it was running out of space. I used a 2 tb hard drive to upgrade to however the Cloning unit but only copied the 1 tb onto the drive leaving a empty 1 tb partition left. I formatted the partition and loaded some data on it but then realized I would like the C Drive to be a one partition, 2 tb drive.
So, I ruined my hard drive last week and recovered all my stuff with photorec (1 TB) but I still lost my folder structure and file names.
The thing is that I had a whole back up from 2 months ago in another hard drive, all I want to do is to recover my new files and files I've edited, but I can't find a way to compare'em both and delete the duplicates found by photorec.
Can anyone help
looks like my hard drive on my desktop just packed up / started to make clicking noises, unable to boot it now. for back up i have always just copied my important files to a usb stick, which of course is not the best method.
