NASA says Moon has more water than Great Lakes

With about one year of analysis of the data from the LCROSS and LRO impact missions to the Moon, NASA announced on October 21, 2010, that it has “convincingly confirmed the presence of water ice.” And, some of it may be easy to access.

Researchers with funding from NASA measured – for the first time – water from the Moon and find that the water content in lunar magma is 100 times higher than previously thought.

According to a first-time worldwide study conducted on the largest lakes found on Earth, NASA has concluded that these lakes have warmed steadily in surface temperature over the past 25 years.

The U.S. space agency NASA is considering the option of using a manned base located at Earth-Moon libration point 2, which is the point about 60,000 kilometers past the far-side of the Moon that is a balanced point between the gravitational fields of Earth and the Moon.

American and Swiss scientists working with NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter suggest that water still flows on the planet Mars. And, it appears to be flowing during the warm months on the Red Planet.

The NASA GRAIL probe will be inserted into orbit about the Moon over the 2011 New Year’s weekend for its mission to precisely map the gravitational field of the Moon. NASA states that the twin satellites will improve our knowledge of the Moon by hundreds of times.
