In March 14, 1999 Ethan Galstad released the first version of Nagios. Then, nearly exactly 10 years later (May 2009), Icinga (a fork of Nagios) was born. What happened there? Why a fork? In this article, I will shed some light about what made the Icinga developers decide to fork (although they still send patches to Nagios).

I have configure nagios server and client on my lab machines which are running under VMWARE.
Now i would like to know how the nagios working in my systems. For that, what i did is i filled up the / partition with some data above 95% in client. But still it is report good status report in disk paramater in nagios server about client.
I would like to know if you have an experience or any idea about how to set up nagios in big scale.
Previously we used nagios and nagiosql for manual settings, it was pretty comfortable for few servers.
Recently number of server has changed and manual configuration by nagiosql became uncomfortable.

Is it possible to chain multiple nagios servers together, or is there a tool that's available that can notify me when a nagios server is no longer reachable?
The idea here is that if the nagios server itself goes down, I won't know if the hosts it's monitoring are no longer available.
