http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Any of you other geeks see this tonight? I am blown away. The myth was a dirty car gets better gas mileage based on a dimpled golf ball flying farther. Of course the dirty car got worse gas mileage, there was little doubt that would be the result. However, they decided to take it one step further. They studied the aerodynamics of a golf ball and also built a scale mold of a car shape and the results were dimpled is much better. To scale it up they put a layer of clay over the real car. They tested with the clay smooth and got 26 MPG. When they dimpled the surface they got an amazing 29 MPG!!! This is huge! I'm already thinking carbon fiber dimpled body panels... (HowTos)
