http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello, could you help me. I could not get surroundsound running. It is an Asus A5ION board with ALC887 chip onboard. It has 3 jacks on back that should offer 5.1 sound according to the manual of the board and 2 jacks on front panel. Speaker-test -D surround51 -c 6 gives me sound on LF,Center,RF and very low volume sound on RR,RL with some mumbel from the sub, sub test mubles sub. In alsamixer the surround mixer affect backspeakers and sub while the chanels are on RR and RL. When plugging in my headphones jack the sound is turned to mute and no sound come out , but sound works fine with no headphones also in my alsamixer there is not automute option.

Just as an introduction: before the upgrade to 12.04 I was only able to get surround sound working by using the AlsaUpgrade script to upgrade alsa to 1.0.25. Without that I would have only stereo options in Sounds Settings.

The upgrade to to 12.04 overwrote the alsa on the system back to version 1.0.24, but Sound Settings does show 5.1 output.

Hi, After one of the latest kernel update to opensuse 11.1 64 bit, I've started to have capture sound problem with builtin microphone of my laptop. It continues with latest opensuse 11.2 64 bit. I've volume up everything from mixer, yast's sound option, configure desktop's multimedia options, but nothing works.

Unreliable sound 2 years 44 weeks ago

Running 11.3 on my HP DV4-1220US the sound worked fine until I installed the Broadcom-wl wireless drivers then the sound stopped. I was able to get the sound working again by reconfiguring the sound drivers in YaST but it is unreliable and often stops working and I have no volume control in the system tray. Here is the output from the varous scripts and commands

I did a fresh install of F12 and the sound is not working, on same PC with F10 and F11 the sound was perfectly working. I tried alsa-info.sh as suggested in another thread and this is the result: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=83...7a34e85bc77e76

Hi, I run Ubuntu 12.04 and have Lenovo G780 laptop. When I plug headphones to jack the sound mutes but you can't hear anthing from the headphones, I tried different headphones.

I ran a script I found on of the help pages here:

Ubuntu and surround sound 29 weeks 5 days ago

im trying to connect my logitech x.530 to my dell studio 1558 and get 5.1 sound. I have 3 jaks and in windows i automaticly could switch between line in adn mic. Which means i could get 5.1 surround over these 3 jacks. Ubunut does not realise that one of the three jacks should be switched to give sound to the center and lfe speaker. Itried all the tips in the forums, but nothing works.

I'm trying to get my Audigy2 to provide me with 5.1 sound but presently ALSA mixes the speakers incorrectly.
