[mythbuntu] Ralink RT2870STA driver not working

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi I am using Mythbuntu 10.10 I managed to configure my wireless N USB device using the RT2870 driver that comes with the system. However, I could only connect at G speeds. After searching this forum, I read that updating the driver with the current version from ralink would give me N speeds. I have been searching through the forums and looked at this SDB:ASUS WL-160N USB Wireless Adapter - openSUSE and I am still having problems getting my ralink rt2870 wireless adapter working.

Found a few threads addressing this but many are 6 months old or better.

There have been new drivers and new Ubuntu since any of the posts I have read.

I am trying to get a linksys WUSB600N up and running on Ubuntu Version 9.10.

I have downloaded the current driver versions from ralink.com

I have a Trim-Slice Value using Ubuntu 11.04. It comes with a Ralink RT5370 802.11n WiFi dongle.

When I plug the dongle in, it does not 'just work'; ifconfig and iwconfig do not show the device, though lsusb does show the device listed:

Caution: I'm a newb.

Hardware: Giada i35G, cedar trail atom with nvidia gf119, railtek ethernet and Ralink 3290 for wireless.

Already accomplished: Installed Ubuntu 12.10, loaded GPU drivers and redirected sound out through GPU card to HDMI. Ethernet works like a charm.

Issue: Can't get my wireless up and running.

For some reason, when I try to install the driver for my wireless card (and it matches the card, the driver is made by the same company that makes a specific driver for it), however, for some reason I get an error message when trying to install the driver.

I have an Ralink wifi card installed. The driver shipped with ubuntu 11.10 does not appear to run my card.

On the ralink website there is a source download for compiling the driver but being new to linux i dont understand exactly what i am supposed to do, I understand that i need to use make to compile the driver.

What i dont understand is the files listed in the readme for the download.

I'm trying to connect to my wireless connection using my D-Link DWA-125 (N 150) Wireless USB Adapter. So far I was able to download, compile and install the driver provided by RALINK.

So I am a total noob to linux in general, but somehow I seemed to get my ralink rt2860 wireless chipset working using the drivers from ralink's site. Unfortunaltely, I keep getting the error when updating or installing stuff "errors were encountered while processing: rt2860-dkms". Did I mess up when installing?
