The National Broadband Network has hit its first major hurdle with NBN Co, the company charged with implementing the network, unable to squeeze what it considers to be an acceptable price from companies submitting construction tenders. The news has led to reports that the 14 construction companies involved with the tender are engaging in price gouging.
Just days after NBN Co ditched all the tender submissions for building the National Broadband Network, Patrick Flannigan, head of construction, has added to the growing storm of controversy surrounding the process by resigning his position at the company.
The NBN Company has named its first construction partners for the roll-out of fibre to the five so-called "first release" sites on the mainland, and have included Telstra in the mix as a preferred contractor.
