http://forums.fedoraforum.org – I am trying to set my root password for my mysql database. After I enter /etc/init.d/mysqld start Starting MySQL: [FAILED] [root@server server]# [root@server server]# mysqladmin -u root password 'mypassword' mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists! [root@server server]# /etc/init.d/mysqld start Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon. Then when I try to set the password for my root account I get mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!
