I've having some very weird issues with my MySQL (5.5) root user. I'm trying to allow an external host to access the root user, but it seems as though my root@localhost does not have "GRANT OPTION" to the local databases!
I have linux root password.
There's MySQL server on that machine.
One of the site's ini was rewritten and now it can't reach the mysql database.
I don't have mysql root to change the password for database user.
The server owner is now in vacation, so I can't ask him to give me the mysql root.
I can reset mysql root password, but I don't want.
I need:
Save current mysql root password hash somewh
Does a root user without a password constitute a security breach if my MySQL server only accepts connections from localhost?
I'm aware that the common wisdom says the root user should be protected by a password, but what are the implications of leaving it blank? I'm not concerned about Linux users other than my own connecting to MySQL and I am not planning to allow network access to the database.
This is a new install and I have only set the root passwords for localhost, 127.0.0.1 and .
I know the password is correct as I can log in with root@localhost to the mysql server and can also create users. However, when I try to grant privileges to the newly created user I get the dreaded "Access denied for user root@localhost (using password: YES)" error message.
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON .
i am trying to use PHPmyadmin and have installed WAMP server, along with mySQL and have created some tables and databases using mysql command line... what happens is they do not show on phpmyadmin and neither can my php code access those database (the php code runs on the wamp).
i tried setting password to
root:127.0.0.1 and root:localhost
same password as that as for mysql root.
All I want to do is run mysql and test very basic things out, but mysql is fighting me every step of the way...
I dont think ive ever changed any settings since ive installed it, I just want to run mysql and look around etc
Code:
joe@joe-U46:/etc/init.d$ mysql
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'joe'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
I try:

Hi,
I'm looking for a bit of help creating an Ubuntu user account (not a MySQL user account) to remotely administer MySQL from MySQL Workbench.
Workbench uses SSH to initiate admin commands and the setup wizard specifies that:
This account needs write access to the my.cnf database config file, read access to the database logs and privileges to start/stop the database daemon.

I'm trying to setup Django w/ MySQL.
I've got Apache and mod_wsgi up and running, and am now trying to introduce django to mysql.
I've created a database named 'django' and a 'django' user.
I've granted all to django on django:
grant ALL on django.* to 'django'@'localhost';
Django's settings.py has been configured with MySQL's settings:
DATABASES = {
'default': {
'ENGINE': 'djan
Situation:
Somehow the mysql.user table got emptied. No more root access, all websites that used the database (shared hosting) were down. Reason unknown.
I restored root password and access. So far so good.
Now I need to restore the users' accounts and privileges.
