My DVD unit can read a data DVD but not an (original) video DVD

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hello everybody, I was trying to watch a movie from an original DVD that I have bought recently, but I was unable to. When I put the DVD on my unit and try to mount it (mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom) I get this error: mount: /dev/sr0: unknown device I found the same error using /dev/cdrom, /dev/sr0 or /dev/dvd on the mounting command. I try with several original movie DVDs (region 1 and region 2) but I didn't get to mount any of them. However, on the same PC but in my Windows session I can watch the movie without problem. I also can watch the movie on a normal DVD player. After trying (HowTos)

In 12.04 Live-USB, I use Movie Player to watch movie or music video. All of the movie/music-video titles that I have seen using the Movie Player are appears on the menu (under the Movie tab).

How to clear this list and how to prevent Movie Player from showing this list anymore? I already try the "Delete History" from the "Privacy" option in "System Settings" but it doesn't work.

Can't play CDs (music) 2 years 24 weeks ago

This is strange.  I can watch movies and I have sound.YouTube has sound, mpg's play and have sound, ogg work as advertised, .wav files, no problems.BUT I pop a music CD in (Example: Paul Simon - original not a copy) and nothing, it doesn't even show up in Thunar.I start VLC > Media <click on> Audio CDDisk Device: /dev/cdrom> Playand I get:Your input can't be opened:

Unable to mount CDROM 32 weeks 6 days ago

I have created a RHEL6 machine that is hosted on VMWare player that in turn runs off my Windows 7 PC.

When I try and mount the CDROM on the RHEL6 box I get the following output:
