I have a very old sound card that was working on a 32-bit Linux computer. I upgraded to a 64-bit computer now, and want to use that PCI sound card in the new computer, but it's not working.
The new computer has a builtin sound card, but I would live to have a speaker as well as headphones without switching back and forth.
I had the same sort of problem a week or so ago but when I did the alsa update thing I lost sound altogether for days, eventually got it working again and the right speaker went quiet so I clicked on the gnome alsa mixer I keep in the launcher and the sound in the right speaker reappeared for a while but then died.
Hi!
Sound was working perfect. i run OpenSUSE 11.2 w/KDE 4.3.4
Its a laptop Dell Latitude D830.
lspci show:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
this sounds dumb, but i get no sound.
the speakers worked fine on another unit, so thats out.
no sound on anything... flash video, TORCS, you name it. its completely mute.
lspci:
Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8377 [KT400/KT600 AGP] Host Bridge
The situation is quite weird, lspci and lshw seem to recognize the soundcard but aplay and gnome-control-center not.

I've made clean install of Fedora 11 yesterday, also did full update. Previously I had Fedora 10 and sound was working just perfectly. Now, although mixer shows max volume, I can barely hear the sound. In comparision, like on Fedora 10 install with 10-20% volume level.
Hello,
I've been having an interesting problem where the audio on my Fedora 17 installation completely dies after a few hours. What I mean by this is that no audio from any application will work any more, the sound icon will disappear, System Settings > Sound is blank in all tabs, and Rhythmbox freezes.
Hello,
After the upgrade to FC12, I have only one problem with audio or sound.
In FC11 there was not that problem.
Sometimes I have audio, sometimes i do not have it.
With the following command, I can see the soundcard, but I cannot hear the sound test.
Code:
[gastonv@d51520994 ~]$ system-config-soundcard
The followin soundcards are detected:
