If I'm working on Windows 7 and close the laptop, it logs me out, and when I open it again I can log back in. However, if I close the laptop with Ubuntu running, the screen goes black and it freezes, why?
I am running the latest version of Ubuntu.

Problem solved, i got the answer from ubuntu forums, I had to go to the power settings and choose "do nothing" when the lid is closed
I have a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04, I want to be able to play music with it while it is on hibernate mode, the problem is: When I close my laptop it goes to hibernation mode (I know this is a default and I know where to change this, but I can't change whether the system should play music during hibernation or not) While I'm playing music, it stops the music as well (this too sounds logical because
When I close the lid to my laptop in windows it will sleep but when it comes time to hibernate it will wake up, manual hibernation will just black out the screen for a few seconds. Same thing happens with Ubuntu 11.10. I'm on acer aspire 7741G. it didnt use to do this.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on an Asus Eee PC. In the Power Settings I have set Ubuntu to "Do Nothing" when the laptop lid is closed. However, when I do close the laptop lid Ubuntu goes into screensaver mode, resets my keyboard layout setting, and requires my password to get back into Ubuntu.
I want to be able to open a Libre Office, close the lid, and type.

Two days ago, I think since I received security updates
Is there a way to have KDEWallet close when I lock my laptop? Usually I have the wallet set to close when the last program using it exits, but I tend to leave Chromium open so it holds the wallet open as well. I'd like to be able to force the wallet closed when I lock my laptop (or maybe even close the lid). Is there a way to do this?
I installed Ubuntu on my Windows 7 Sager laptop using Wubi. Hibernate (i.e. suspend to disc) is not an option from the power icon, only suspend, shutdown, etc. Hibernate is also not an option from my battery/lid close options. I understand that hibernation is disabled by default in Ubuntu 12.04. I tried running pm-hibernate but I get the following message:
Looking for splash system...

Hi,
My partner is running 9.10 as her only OS on a Toshiba satellite L300. She would like to enable hibernation when the lid is closed. I have gone into the power management and enabled it there on battery and AC, but when the lid is closed the laptop does not go into hibernation. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to resolve this please.
