HI i am a newb when it comes to linux
i am trying to set up an email server but when i try to edit the postfix main.cf file in gedit i can't save it. it says i don't have permissions. root is the only user with read/write permissions. how can i change this or somehow edit the file otherwise?
I just install Ubuntu 12.04. I want to change the boot order of grub. Previous versions of grub.cfg I was able to change the permissions and the do a gedit. After reloading 12.04, I was able to change permissions for grub.cfg, but gedit will not let me save it. I am a little irritated that Ubuntu is suppose to be open source. However someone has chosen to lock one out of a file.
I'll reproduce here my comment on AUR's package page:The message you got are expected, it's just information. The error when running obmenugen --pipe means that the generated menu.xml is not in the format of Openbox Menus, or have some ilegal character for a well-formed XML file. When you run obmenugen --help, near the end is my contact email.
I'm trying to change file permissions on a windows server for a domain. It works fine except for one little problem. There is a co-worker that logs in using the same user as mine but on my computer I have full file permissions and on hers the file is read-only. Any help?
I just can't change any file permissions even when I am logged in as root.
I tried changing the permissions from both terminal and i got no errors but the permissions remain the same. And when i try to change by right clicking and selecting permissions tab in properties they instantly revert back.
Am using Ubuntu 13.10
