I am interested in rolling my own sever backup routine using Amazon S3 or even Google Storage as my storage host. I currently use Mozy Pro (I opted into their new pricing model which allows me share my backup storage pool across numerous servers). I want a storage system that allows me to have more control over the storage scheme than what Mozy offers.
Hopefully someone can help me out here - would be much appreciated!
Like most people, I want to ensure that my personal media files are backed up. This is around 200Gb of photos and videos - stored on my home PC.
I currently use Mozy as a backup solution - which works flawlessly - backing up selected folders to their cloud storage with no involvement from me.
I was looking at setting up a backup server running on a virtualbox with Windows Server 2008r2 as the host (I have no say here). I was thinking about using FreeNAS with ZFS, however, I am finding out that some have had problems with this due to S.M.A.R.T.
I’ve been using a WD 5000AAJ 500Go USB 2.0 for a couple of years to backup another external hard drive I have. I use SuperDuper on a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.5 to do nightly, incremental backups.
Lately, I decided that the drive would served another purpose and backup another drive. So I started a new backup.
