Mozilla Launches Firefox Mobile Add-On Challenge

Mozilla has launched a contest to spur on development of add-ons for its recently-released Firefox for Mobile browser. Between now and April 12, developers are encouraged to create extensions or other add-ons tailored for the mobile browser.

The Mozilla Foundation has released an early test version of Fennec, the mobile Firefox browser. Fennec, the mobile version of the Firefox web browser is now in testing for Android devices. The Mozilla Foundation, which controls the Firefox browser, has released a "pre-alpha" version of Fennec for Google's operating system.

Firefox developers are planning to bring some very productive changes in the next version of their mobile browser, Fennec 2.0. This upcoming browser will support Hardware accelerated rendering and out of process web content.

Firefox mobile is heading to Android, slowly. The mobile version of Firefox's browser, called Fennec, is still only available for the Windows Mobile and Maemo platform, a soon-to-be redundant operating system only used on a couple of Nokia devices.
