I use KDE and whenever I mount anything, such as a usb stick or cd, with a gtk program through it's file chooser, I am unable to unmount it through the normal KDE ways. I can open a terminal and successfully umount it, but trying to do it with dolphin or the Device Notifier widget results in the following:
Code:
Could not unmount the device.
Attempting to mount a 1TB "SimpleDrive" USB drive. The USB management tool shows the drive, however selecting the option "open with file manager" has Dolphin opening /home/user/Documents versus /media/simpledrive.
Since working with Linux I've never had a problem accessing my data stick, but now all of a sudden I get this pop-up error message whenever I plug it in or try to open it via my file manager:
Quote:
Failed to mount "16G Removable Volume".
Amazing piece of work you got here jnguyen. Was annoyed that thunar/exo/whatever it was that made thunar rely on gfvs for mounting devices but not only didn't I have the time to find a proper replacement/fix at the moment, when I actually did search for one, I overlooked this great contribution of yours.
Hi,
I came into this strange behavior related to mounting DVDs and/or CDs in SuSE 11.2 :
Hi everyone. I've got an ipod which I haven't used with my opensuse computer for a while, but recently tried to get it connected again. When I plug in the ipod, two devices show in Dolphin's "places" or in the KDE device notifier (in the plasma panel). One has the "name" I typed in when I set up the ipod with itunes, the other is labeled "iPod".
Is there a Device Manager with GUI for XFCE Desktop? Similar to Windows Device Manager - when open, it will list all PV devices by groups. And can rescan ports for new devices.
Got an external harddisk and when inserting it into my desktop running openSUSE 11.2, dolphin will recognise it as /media/testing.
Wanted to rename the device label from "testing" to "Backup". Googled and understand the way to do it is to issue this command
When reformatting a USB drive with gparted, my volume manager attempts to mount the device. This results in some error messages telling me the device could not be mounted. The only way I know to turn these messages off, is to temporarily disable the auto-mount options in "Removable drives and media" settings for XFce4. Changing these settings constantly gets to be troublesome.
